Re: [RC] [RC] coyotes - Maryben Stover

We have a baby coyote who has been hanging around and is not about 1/2 grown.  He walks around and in between the horses in the pasture.  I have also seen two others.  I think they come down to help the horses eat their grain and to hunt for ground squirrels and maybe for water.  The horses pretty much ignore them.

We have a resident mountain lion too.  He has been seen on our driveway by one of the kids coming back from a ride.  She waved her arms and yelled at him so he left.  She said he was about the size of my dog who is 28 inches tall and weighs 119 lbs.

We have been pretty much coexisting with them all.

A few weeks ago our friends said they saw coyotes in the horse pasture we didn't think much of it but yesterday and again today their were three of them theirs about 12 horses kept at their house(4 are ours) and our two endurance horses are kept in large corrals by them self's so they can have free choice hay.their is also an old mare who is stalled due to an injury.I assume the other 9 that are out together would be fine as their is safety in numbers but does any one know if the coyotes pose much or any of a threat to the "lone" horses?
