Re: [RC] You have no clue....and neither do (or can) I - Angie Fura

Hmm - will have to check out those implications.  I'm not educated enough to dispute or comment on them.

I'm not sure that, in itself, is a reason to discount or eliminating recycling.  Reusing materials minimizes the need to produce new materials.  This tranlates in less esources required to manufacture new products.  Yes, recycling in itself takes energy and produces unwanted outputs.  But think of how many less resources would be required to fell trees and transport them to the paper mills?  And think of how many acres of tree farms could potentially be transitioned into recreational areas.

Never one to miss a chance to burst someone's bubble I must relate these
facts I recently read:

A study from the National Wildlife Federation study showed that recycling
one hundred tons of newspaper produces forty tons of toxic sludge.
Thirteen of the 50 worst Superfund hazardous waste dumps were once
recycling facilities.

"Add to that that 87% of all paper stock comes from trees which are grown
as a crop specifically for the purpose of paper production. Acting to
conserve trees by paper recycling is like acting to "conserve corn" by
cutting back on corn consumption".  Jerry Taylor of the Cato Institute
