Same here...you don't have to soak it a long time...we feed a custom mix that is beet pulp based.  We scoop out each horse's ration, use the hose to add water, stir, and by the time we distribute the buckets and pans, it's soaked the water up...maybe 5 minutes.  Leading up to rides and at rides we add additional shredded beet pulp for even more water consumption.  The horses love it.  :)
