Someone once told me that humans are arrogant to think that they are so powerful that they can destroy Nature.  Sure, we can mess it up for awhile, but in the long run, Nature is the more powerful force and heals itself nicely, given the time and opportunity.  Animals repopulate themselves and    trees regrow with astounding speed.  A few historically recent animal species have been eliminated by humans (think Passenger Pigeons), but nowadays, wonderful things are happening.  The restoration of the California Condor comes to mind.

Doesn't it appear in the least bit egotistical in the grand scheme of the Universe that
we puny humans could be responsible for so much?
