[RC] Cost of riding - Spottedracer

I will never understand why a $3.00 gallon of gas stops more people
from riding than a $10-$40,000 truck, ****By them USED - then drive them for
10-15 years after they're paid off... Brings the over-all price down to a few
hundred per year!**grin***

a $1500-$5000 horse (or two or
three), ***Go rescue 'em like I did.. I've paid less than $5,000 TOTAL for all
5 of my current horses.. And after proper training/treatment - they're all
sound and have been trailridden at LBL by rank beginners.. **grin** REALLY cuts
the price down - and saves some horses lives!

a $2,000--$50,000 trailer, ongoing vehicle
maintenance costs, high load range tires, insurance,***he, he, he, .,.Wish I
could AFFORD a $50K trailer. I'm such a dedicated tight-wad - I'll still buy a
used one - once I finish my education and can afford it!!

$500-$2000 saddles, ***If you can't afford it - just do what my daughter and I
do - make/buy 'extreme bareback pads' - costs less than $100 (counting the good
quality pad under it), Granted, I don't recommend riders with non-gaited mounts
to try a 50 like this - unless they truly have titanium buttocks!*****

regular shoeings or boots, the price of land to keep horses on or
boarding fees, ride fees, membership fees, etc. *****Well said, BUT when you
buy your own land - you can also raise your own 'organic beef/goats' and
Fruits/Vegs - so you end up saving money in grocery bills, and eating
'healthier' to boot!*****

Gas will likely always be a very minor
fraction of the entire expense of endurance riding. ***As you can see - it
depends on who you are. For me, Gas is about 25-35% of the 'total endurance
package'.. Since my horses all 'work' as schooling horses, and my land pays for
itself in feeding my growing kids. *******

- LP ...Dedicated to lowering her 'costs' of daily life w/horses (and KIDS!!!)
