Brazil's ethanol is made from sugar cane. According to some tv show I watched (which I don't know how accurate it was), it said that you could use practically any dead plant material to make ethanol. They mentioned using all the orange peels and stuff that was left over from making orange juice and a couple of other things.

Someone was telling me that Brazil's ethanol is made from sugar cane, of which apparently it has a good supply. I just cannot imagine there being enough land to grow enough corn to produce enough ethanol for our needs in this country. Corn also saps soil of nutrients (worse than some other crops) so those have to be replaced with fertilizer, which is made from petroleum. It looks like a kind of no-win situation. Any other ideas?
Is it just me? At $2 per bag more, a person would have to buy a bag a week to get over $100 per year (something I have a hard time imagining, unless one has chickens or something). Personally, I'd like to see the bulk of field corn get made into ethanol to go in our vehicles. Brazil has been running on ethanol for over 30 years, and their pump prices are half what ours are. At that rate, I would save $100 every 3 weeks or so. Additionally, the thing that makes beef unhealthy is the last two months in the feedlot eating corn and other high-carb food--cattle, like horses, are meant to be forage consumers and their health suffers on high-carb diets.
Yep, I'd GLADLY pay more for what little corn I use and have ethanol for my gas tank and healthier beef at the supermarket!

Welcome to the wonderful world of ethanol mandates.

Seems this can be attributed to those who are active participants in the 'futures' stocks. They have only one thing on their mind: MONEY!!! ie $$$$$$$$ not anyone else's welfare. IMHO this is a bit of shame. why can't we have capital type ecomony and still have good basic values??
