[RC] Vicebreaker shock collar - Tx Trigger

If a horse exhibits a behavior that makes the shock collar a

consideration, wouldn't it be much better to figure out the WHY of the
behavior and
remedy that? <<<


I used our dog shock collar on one horse, who would run down our very timid
gelding in the pasture to take big chunks of skin off by biting him.   WHY
he did this behavior was simple. The horse is a over bearing jerk, that
wants to rule the pasture, and found this horse did not stand up for
himself, so he went after him.  I would have much preferred the horse would
have stood up for himself and planted a couple nicely place hooves in the
jerks chest, but he was not gonna do it. So, shock collar on, put them in a
smaller field, and when Mr. Control freak took off after the other one,
right as he opened his mouth, and was a few feet from removing hide and
hair, ZAP. He did not associate it with me. I was standing off near the
barn. He stopped, and pondered it a bit, then went after him a second time,
and got a ZAP again. That was all it took. He has been much nicer to him,
and that was a few years ago that we had the "lesson".

Shock collars with the horses, or dogs need to be fully understood, and used
at the right moment, and do not work for every circumstance.  With any of my
other horses, the jerk would have gotten kicked  when chased(thus the pain
of such). This horse he got a zap for the action (thus pain).

Trying to cure something like pawing, would be very tricky, as the horse is
usually anxious for some reason, be it left tied alone, or what ever, and
the zap of a collar would most likely make the horse MORE anxious.  As I
said,I think they really need to be understood, and not used at random, or
because it seems "quicker and easier" to just zap them.
