[RC] Warming up - Beth Leggieri

I traditionally walk the first 10 minutes of a ride before allowing my horse to trot--warm up the muscles, do a brain check to make sure all is well, check for good equipment fit, etc.

Are there differing opinions as to the length of an appropriate warm-up period prior to a conditioning ride (all trotting on challenging terrain)?  Am concerned this is long enough to allow proper warm-up for the support structures.

As well, is a cool-down period of 10 minutes (walking "in") adequate?
