RE: [RC] hay/sticker shock?! - Chastain, Shannon L.I could not feed my horses at these prices I just got 180 bales of brome grass hay last weekend. We did get it right out of the field and I paid $2.50 a bale. They weight about 65 pounds, my son insisted as the day went on they got closer to 100#:-)) I live in Missouri and I am an accountant at a Nuke plant I wonder if the accountants at the Nukes in CA make enough more then me to be able to afford hay at $20 a bale? Hey my house payments are only $250 a months and my taxes were only $880 last year:-)) But I do have to drive lots of miles for rides, but have some good conditioning trails within 25 miles of me. Is this true?????? Good grief... I won't buy Orchard anymore. Found other types cheaper. I also made a point to the suppliers in general, that I won't even be interested at those prices. Have to put our foot down somehow. I know for the most part they can't help it either. But, I do know they can vary the mark-up. So I by hay from "client" friendly suppliers who still need to make a profit for their business of course, but still try to be fair to their consumers. Also looking for property w/pasture. So that will help!
