[RC] Places to live and train in SE Texas... - Mike Lewis

I'm currently Active Duty military, but am looking to the future and want to "put out feelers" for places to live after I retire (long way off) or otherwise find myself a civilian again.

I love AERC's Southeast region, but Texas is home and is probably where we will settle after my military career.  Some acreage convenient to southeast Houston (where I think I'll end up working) that has miles of trail adjacent to the property would be nice.  I suspect land and home prices for such places are ridiculous, though, so something adjacent to trails may not be something I can do.

Are any of the folks here living in the Houston area?  Where are the relatively affordable places to live with your horses, and how convenient are the trails?  Friendswood/Dickinson/Santa Fe are possibilities, but I don't know of many horse trails around there.  Besides, my wife prefers something north of town.

Thanks,

Mike Lewis
