[RC] bears in cool - sherman

D’Arcy, the Auburn State Recreation Area is the agency that oversees activity in the area, maybe you should call them & talk to them about what you overheard.

I’ve run into the bears a couple times on the the single track trail towards Auburn from Cool, just before you get to Short-Cut trail. They have always moved out of the way eventually. I think this pair of bears has grown up on these trails and are probably now feeling more comfortable with the human, horse, & bike traffic as they’ve seen so much of it, and know there is no threat. I don’t know what the repercussions will be of rock throwing. Don’t bears get mad when they’re hurt? I recall reading/hearing that noise making the way to chase them away. To my knowledge these bears haven’t been aggressive, will the rock throwing bring this out in them? Anyone know?

I don't know how founded this is.  I overheard a group
of people (mountain bikers) at a restaurant in Cool
saying they had hit a bear with rocks to get it to
move.  They were laughing.  I felt awful and wanted to
hit them with a rock.  A BIG BOULDER!....So, I hope
this bear was not the bear they were referring to.  If
so, perhaps it had been hit and was injured.  :(

Can we find out from the Park Staff what the result of
their investigation was?  I don't know who to call.
