[RC] Grooms (was: Refusing Entry) - k s swigart

huh? She hired a GROOM? For her or
the horse? Just wondering....

Presumably for the competitors which includes both horse and rider.
Grooms for competitive horses are a pretty common practice. Actually,
grooms for horses are a pretty common practice. The definition of groom
is pretty much general dogsbody besides the primary rider whose task is
to take care of the horse and little things about the rider too if the
rider cannot take care of it alone.

In endurance it is more common to call this "crew" but the rest of the
horse world calls these people grooms.

Personally, I don't hire grooms, I just con friends or family into
coming along and helping out (or not, then I just do it alone)...and
reciprocate (to friends, not family). But I know plenty of people who
do...even some endurance riders.

Bringing along other people to help you and your horse at an endurance
ride is not an uncommon practice, and it is not unheard of for some of
these people to be hired for it.
