Re: [RC] [RC] refusing entry - Ranelle Rubin

Ed,

When a rider has a problem with another rider in terms of unsportsmanlike conduct, etc..I encourage that rider to not only let the RM know, but in doing so be prepared to put it in writing.

Many years ago, I was riding an LD with a junior rider, and a young horse (who is now very famous in our sport-Bogus Thunder). It was his first ride, and hers. She was on my experienced horse, thank goodness.

A man who is a long-time, competitive endurance rider, was behind us. It was a narrow multi-use trail and we came across a dirt biker. The guy was very nice, and struggling to turn his bike around to go back the way he came. Our horses were patiently waiting for him to do it, nice and calm..(Good thing they had been ridden with dirt bikes in the past) It was a trail cut into a hillside, so there was no place for him to just get out of the way.

All of a sudden, I felt Bogus scoot forward, and heard my junior rider shout out..This man was litterally whipping his horse past us on the uphill side, forcing our horses off the side of the trail in an attempt to get past us. He shouted, "Just go around him!" He was worried about cutoff as we were the last riders out of camp. I laid into him for endangering my junior rider and just plain being stupid..!

When we were back in camp later that day, I spoke to the RM. She asked me to detail in writing the incident, which I gladly did. This guy was banned from that ride, which is a great ride, for a period of 3 years..

Forward about 8 years and I ran into him on the trail last week..I know he did not remember me, because he stoped to admire my horse...:)

When someone is that stupid...let it be known, and be willing to help document it!

"...A rider
refused entry can file a protest and I suspect the burden of proof would
be quite high on those that refused the entry...."

If memory serves somewhere's in the west, a group of RM's got together and banned a rider. The rider filed a protest which was upheld when the group could not muster proof of the misconduct.
