[RC] prohibited drugs - k s swigart

HI! :-0 Is there a "list" of drugs prohibited by
the AERC?

Not yet. The most recent issue of Endurance News that outlined the new
drug rule says that there will be if/when it is implemented.

I checked the rule book but what
I found was pretty vague, anyway I just want
to make sure that the ulcer medicine ( Cetadine)
I just put my mare on is o.k.

Under the current rule, it is not. You will have to wait until they
come out with the list of "permitted substances" that is also spoken of
in the most recent issue of the EN to know whether it will be if/when
the new rule is implemented.

The current rule prohibits all "drugs" (and virtually nobody would argue
that Cemetidine isn't a drug) during competition (you can, of course,
use any drug you want at home). The current "guidelines" published by
the AERC permit the use of Regumate (which virtually nobody would argue
isn't a drug either) or other substances for regulating estrous in
mares. This is a contradiction with the current rule, but since the
AERC has published it as a guideline, they cannont enforce their current
drug rule with respect to participants who drug their horses with
substances for regulating estrous in mares.

They can, however, enforce the rule about ulcer medications.
