And some folk wonder why ride and show organizers have to have insurance policies if they do not cover injury to the club members...

The point about potentially perhaps needing a special umbrella policy is interesting. The nearest I can come is that standard automobile policies do not cover a "contest of speed".

Back in the 60's when I did some automobile rallying (USA type, sort of like a CTR in a car), the event organizers were careful to state that since we were required to keep an average speed well below the speed limit, it was not a "contest of speed" as in "race" and thus we were covered. The last time I thought about rally's, I realized I had not heard of one for years. Perhaps lawsuits etc. killed them off.
