RE: [RC] Why I watch horse jumping - Susan

I agree the athleticism of the horse is beautiful to watch in show jumping.
I also get a lot out of watching them. I however, enjoy watching the
partnership in eventing. To see the rider and horse adjust from the quiet
smooth musical elegance of dressage one day, then to the power and speed of
the cross-country the next, then finally the slower elegant show-jumping the
next to me is the best partnership.

BTW, do you have the individual dressage of the 1992 Olympics. The bronze
winner lives in Santa Ynez, Calif. Charlotte Bredahl-Baker.

Why do people watch hockey? Horse jumping???????????

Well, I watch horse jumping for two reasons. I love the pure
athleticism of the horses and consider it beautiful to watch. And I
watch it to see the technique of the riders so I can improve my own
jumping skills.

Neither of these things require that I either care about the results or
care when I get to watch the event. I have tapes of the 1992 Olympics
that I still go back and watch.

When I was a competitive skier, I watched ski racing for the same
reasons...but mostly to watch the technique of expert skiers. The
outcome of the ski races was irrelevant except with respect to how it
correlated with the technique of each of the skiers. And, in fact, from
a technique analysis standpoint it was better to know the outcome BEFORE
watching it, so you would know in advance which of the skiers to watch
the most closely because they either won...or didn't.

Do people learn anything about technique of endurance riders ad
improving their own by "watching" the up to date reporting of endurance
rides?
