Re: [RC] Navajo Lady - Amy

It is awesome what your family did for her and no doubt you came along just
in time.

I noticed some horses this spring (as the grass was coming in) who looked
like they had eaten very little over the winter, no storage on the property
for hay even. But with them starting to have grass to eat, I knew that
animal control couldn't do anything and I'd have to wait till this winter to
turn them in if again, the horses had nothing to eat. To my horror one of
them had a foal this fall :(, an adorable little paint. When he was a month
or two, he kept getting out of their falling apart wire fence and he was
right by the road one day as I was driving by. So I got out and herded him
back over to the house and then knocked on the door and wasn't very nice to
the guy. He didn't even offer to come out and get the foal in, course as I
was talking to him, the foal popped back into the fence through one of the
many holes. I left with asking him, "What are you going to do with these
horses anyhow?!" He was like what do you mean? So then I said that I
noticed his house was for sale, so are you taking the horses with you or
selling them? He just told me he hadn't decided yet. I drove by that night
and the horses were all gone, goat too. Word is that he sold them, I just
hope it's true and that they are somewhere where they are at least getting
fed.

Yes, yes, yes, to all those who have asked if I will post pictures of
Navajo Lady in her current healthy form! I am overwhelmed by the
response to her story, and I will have to get out to where she lives and
snap a couple of photos. Probably be Friday before I can post them here.
And, yes, that's me in the second photo with her. I'm the one on the
right.
I guess if I learned anything from that experience, it's to never
miss a chance to help a horse. Or a child. Don't hesitate, just do it.
Regardless of the outcome , it's always right to try. Dr Q
