RE: [RC] [RC] 30 minutes - not workable for many rides. - heidi

Nancy, the "finish" of the ride doesn't occur until the horses reach camp.  All we did was stop the racing in a safe place, and average the time it would take them to walk in, so that their ride times reflected the time it actually took them to complete the trail, not just to get to the point where the racing stopped for the sake of safety.

But isn't the 30 minute proposal for purpose of preventing horses from being
raced to the finish harder then they are fit for? But, if the race finish is
out of camp and the RM  adds 10 minutes or whatever it takes to walk to
camp, then thay really have 40 minutes or more to walk in to the vet, not
30.
I'm not against rational proposals, and brainstorming, for ways to protect
horses, really I'm not.
I just feel that if the rule says 30 minutes is the new gold standard
because horses are being harmed by the 60, then by gosh it needs to be 30
for everybody. NOT 40 here, 50 there, or whatever the RM is willing to swear
is necessary.  And if a significant number of rides can't manage to adhere
to 30 minutes (which I think is likely) then lets not kid ourselves with a
feel good rule that we really have no intention of adhering to.
And the reason 30 minutes seems to work for LD is I've never seen anybody
jump hoops to vet those horses thru to full completion in 30 minutes. These
horse are getting pulsed in by 30, but if the vets are busy they get the
rest of the completion exam when they can.  This new proposal as I read it
says they must pass the fit to continue exam in 30, which should be a lot
more than just the pulse and a few steps of a jog.
