[RC] Answer to the horses off feed after a ride - Steve

The answer is they have Ulcers developed by Endurance stress (oh crap just
brought up the ulcer study again) and is it ok or not to use the ulcer drug
during rides? Think it maybe at Fei only

I studied with Dr Snyder at UC Davis and seen other reports as well and
also being hands on the proven fact that after a Endurance Ride 80%+ had
developed Ulcers if they had a small percentage previous they were
enlarged during the ride I did not seem to think it effected performance

since the winning horse had the worst bleeding ulcers and got best
condition

but as the ride goes.. as any we stuff the yucky electrolytes in the mouth
and they hit the wall
performance is off

at the end of the ride and the adrenaline rush is cooled down,
electrolytes and food irritate the horse linings and they go off food what
they would probably only eat is a bit of green grass

Results horses that live on pastures very seldom showed signs of ulcers by
scoping procedures

'Tums' would not hurt
