[RC] Bile/gall bladder - Maureen A. Fager

Horses do produce bile, but they have no storage organ; ie the gall bladder. Horses process fats in their diets as plants can and do contain fats.

"Naturally, the horse would graze for 16-18 h per day and evolved without a gall bladder; bile being secreted continuously as the food passes through the gastrointestinal tract. Bile helps to alkalise the digesta and the bile acids are required for emulsification and digestion of lipids. Most fatty acids are absorbed into the lymphatics but some of the medium chain triglycerides may be absorbed directly into the bloodstream."

look under small intesine.

However, what possible connection between beet pulp, gall bladders (or lackthereof) and arthritis could exist, eludes me.

Cheers,
Maureen
