[RC] Non-WEC alternative to International - k s swigart

Steph said:

I think we need to start looking at non-WEC
alternatives to Int'l endurance. I'm thinking of
doing another FEI ride next year (had just about
decided not to) but making it an Invitational -
bring 2 horses - one for you, one for a friend
from another country. Then the other country
can reciprocate. Ride 50 miles or 75 or 100...
the important thing is to share the experience.
It probably doesn't even have to be FEI...
but it would make sense if it's International.

Actually, it most definitely does not NEED to be FEI, and I can see
little or no benefit to it being so. It would just have the effect of
making it more expensive for everybody.

If you were to run such an event as a regular AERC ride, I would come,
and, if I had one ready, bring a spare horse. If you sanction it with
the FEI as well and require that I enter the FEI ride to participate, I
wouldn't.

Unless the riders later want to participate in the WEC or some other FEI
championship, it makes absolutely NO sense (even if there are people
from lots of countries in attendance) for it to be an FEI ride.

Personally, THIS approach to "international" endurance is something I
could easily get on board with and be eager to participate in...but I
wouldn't trust it to stay that way if the FEI were to stick its nose in.
