Lucy is right that Donner can get pretty ugly, too--and it is WAY more impacted than our peaceful passes here by heavy traffic, much of which is not terribly experienced in bad-weather driving.  IMO that's a far worse danger than the bad roads themselves.
 
 
AMEN!!!!!!  They think because they have an All Terrain BMW or a 4x4 Toyota they can go 70 mph in snow and ice ;-/
 
They also do it wearing shorts and sandals, carrying no chains or water or food, and get REALLY upset when they have to sit on the highway (sometimes for hours) because then they get cold and hungry and it's Someone Else's fault [rolling eyes].
