[RC] Benefit Ride for Coldwater Horse Trails (NW Florida panhandle) - Christina SchiroFor those of you in NW Florida, southern Alabama, and southern Georgia, or beyond - Five Flags Arabian Horse Association will be hosting the Annual Coldwater Benefit on May 18-20, 2007. The Coldwater Recreation Area is located in the Blackwater River State Forest in Milton, FL (northeast of Pensacola) in northwest Florida. Through the Friends of Florida State Forests, proceeds are earmarked for Coldwater trails and the horsemen's campground improvements. Current Coldwater amenities include 69 electric/water shady campsites with picnic tables and firepits along Coldwater Creek; swiming area with sandy beach; canoe launch; Bathhouse with a/c, heat, flush toilets, hot showers, and sinks;
Barns, covered paddocks, and uncovered paddocks adjoining the campground; 1 acre grass temporary-turnout pasture; round pen; washracks; large covered pavilion; and dining hall with commercial-sized kitchen. Upcoming projects are new womens' bathhouse, covering one row of existing paddocks, building another row of uncovered paddocks; and adding dividers to more of the paddocks. There are 50+ miles of marked trails and Five Flags AHA is continually working with Forestry to add more and improve the existing. The Blackwater Boogie Endurance Ride, hosted by Five Flags AHA, uses the Coldwater Recreation Area horse trails. Please consider supporting the event by attending the Coldwater Benefit: Trail Pace, silent auctions, raffles, bake sale, catered hot lunch, and pot-luck dinner on Saturday, May 19th. Competitive Mounted Orienteering, CMO demo and practice, bake sale,
