I'd agree with Heidi.  It's one of the things we look for as "the leader of the pack" in a herd situation.  Of course you can get yourself into trouble if your herd is made up of 'alpha' type mares that don't want to subordinate to anyone!  That's when you need to sell your 16 acres and move to 100 acres for the alpha retirees!  LOL!
