[RC] Wintec A/P Saddle - Aaron Turnage

I had a Wintec 2000 that I LOVED!  I did many miles in that saddle, including my first 100 and Tevis last year.  I rode it without a sheepskin even, it was so comfy for me.  What I didn't like about that saddle, and what eventually sent it packing was it just didn't fit my horse right.  Even with the extra-wide gullet installed it was too narrow for my horse and ended up not bearing the weight equally along the lenght of the panels, but rather in a spot about the size of two hands together just back of his withers.  My horse NEVER complained about the saddle though, and he will tell me when he doesn't like something (such as the Freeform he HATED).

If you saddle has the CAIR panels, which I think most of them do now, I would HIGHLY recommend a Supracor pad.  The CAIR panels, with being air-tight, do not breathe and this saddle can trap a lot of heat against your horse.  The Supracor worked the best of the pads I tried, a Coolback, a Woolback and a HAF pad.  With the Supracor you could feel the air being pumped onto the horse and his back felt noticably cooler to the touch upon removing the saddle.  Note that some horses do not do well with this pad, something about the binding and/or synthetic material.

I ended up selling the Wintec and buying a wide (or is it extra-wide?) Arabian Saddle Co. Solstice (even though my horse is not an Arab, hehe).  I really like this saddle a lot as well and have done one 100 and a multiday in it so far.
