Re: [RC] heart rate monitor question - Diane Trefethen

I absolutely know the answers to this question…I’m asking you guys b/c she is arguing with me and not believing me, so I thought I”d get some back up, good or bad. I figured if I was wrong, you guys would et me know, and if I was right then I could show her it wasn’t just my assessment, but others who felt the same way.

I think you are making a mistake characterizing the issue as "wrong" or
"right". All three methods for determining a pulse have their value; it
just depends on what you wish to accomplish and how comfortable you are
with a technique.

Personally, it makes me uneasy when people tout the use of monitors over
stethoscopes. About the only time I can see that being valid is if a rider
has a hearing problem AND it is difficult to find her/his horse's pulse at
any of the pulse points. I prefer to use a stethoscope because I think it is safer and more reliable.
