What about feeding your horse granular garlic?  I get it at Smart and Final
for just under $10 for a 2 lb tub(I think that is the size, could be wrong).
Really cuts the bugs and totally stopped the ticks.  Start with a teaspoon a
day and go up to 2 tablespoons a day.  It has made a world of difference
with my bay, Jazzi.
