[RC] 5.45 mph - k s swigart

Rusty Toth said:

We have high speed happening here as well, every
ride I attend has a winner coming in at blazing speeds
and I have ridden in three AERC regions.

The winner at my ride last weekend had an average speed of 5.45 mph
(that would be 8.73 kph to those of you who think metric), and she did
the last 7.3 miles (the last place I had a checkpoint) at an average
speed of 5.8 mph.

_I_ can walk faster than that (~10 minute mile); although admittedly,
not for 100 miles; however, "slower than I can walk" does not meet MY
definition of "blazing speed."

And yes, it was the footing and the terrain that dicated this speed.
The weather was beautiful.

It IS possible to design a course where even the fastest horses are
going pretty slow.
