Re: [RC] Membership forum??And Mike Maul's point. - Diane Trefethen

Hi Chrystal,

The AERC membership forum is one which is not run by nor is it a part of AERC (American Endurance Ride Conference) but does have as a requirement that to be allowed to post, you must be an AERC member, hence its name. However, you do not have to be a member to read the posts there:

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/AERCMembersForum/

USEF stands for United States Equestrian Federation. It's website is at:

http://www.usef.org/

USEF is "...the National Governing Body (NGB) of Equestrian Sport in the United States" and as such it regulates equestrian competition in the United States. You may read USEF's mission statement here:

http://www.usef.org/content/aboutUs/missionStatement/

I'm not sure which of Jim's statements you found "rude and arrogant" but if it was "...we have the most uninformed general membership of any organization I have ever belonged to...", while that was perhaps a bit strong, it is true that in most organizations, only about 1% are fervently interested in running the thing, 8-10% do almost all the work to make the organization successful and another 4% make it their mission to hassle the first 1% about everything they do. The remaining 85% or so of the membership just pay their dues and take what services the organization provides. When they start feeling that they aren't getting their money's worth, they don't get involved to change things. They simply quit. This is why it is sometimes hard for the 15% that try to be involved to show respect for the unknown (unvoiced) opinions of the other 85%

I hope this has been helpful. Have a good week :)

Diane
