I suspect that even with moderate use of electrolytes, most horses end a ride in a sodium deficit.  My only supporting evidence is that Ranger would consistently exhibit mild colic symptoms a day or two after a ride.  As an experiment, I continued elyte dosing for a couple of days post ride.  The mild colic symptoms dissappeared.  I have done enough rides since to know that at least for him this works.
