Re: [RC] Won't hurt? - rides2far

I was thinking of malaysia not so much idaho. The two rides I've
seen > there have been both at relatively extreme conditions. The
electrolyte regimes employed varied of course, but Steph, as I
recall > didn't give electrolytes in either the 80km or 120km rides
she
completed there.

Cooling was an issue ...

I'd love to know more about it. Believe me, it wouldn't break my heart if
sombody could convince me I never had to mix electrlolytes again! Does
anybody do any bloodwork on these horses to compare those who dose with
those who don't, etc? It's hard to just totally throw something out
that's been drilled in your head for 20 years. I remember at the high
point when a vet showed us that WAY more electrolytes were lost than we
could ever replace so we COULD NOT overdose them if we tried!
Personally, Kaboot was probably on a pretty aggressive program with a
dose before the ride and every hour or so, but he was running for top 10
during that. I remember one girl who had a fast horse that just refused
to take electrolytes and after several metabolic problems she just gave
up on him. So, please, somebody out there, convince me...with some data
because you sure hit us with the data convincing us TO use them!
