[RC] dog food issues - Kathie Ford

Oh my gosh, I had called my vet a week and a half ago because I had three of four of my dogs become slightly ill. I had "borrowed" a little "dry" dog food from my daughters bag. Only three had eaten ONE bowl of it and all three came down ill.

First was my border/aussie cross. He had terrible runny stools for two days and was not eating at all. Totally unlike him as he's a pig. layed around all day. Never been sick before. I did make sure he drank which he did some but not great. Thought at first that he just caught a bug, then worried WNV. But he got better on the third day and has been fine.

What alarmed me was the same day he got "well" my other border/golden retriever came down ill. Same symptoms same behavior. I called the vet and asked if they'd had any ill dogs recently and mentioned the symptoms. They said no, probably just a bug.

Then, my daughters little pekinese came down ill and we were a little worried about her as her stool had a little bit of blood. However, since the vet had told me NOT to worry I didn't and she got better too. Instinctively, I changed the food for all three and the fourth dog, who had not eaten the other food was the only one fine.

A week or so later there is this recall! Well, (my daughters) her food was just listed and it is a dry kibble food by Purina. Fortunately, our dogs were okay on their own and I think it is because I was suspicious of the food item. Though maybe just to rich for them.

I think are dogs were lucky and possibly the tip of the iceburg.
