Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] MORE DOG FOOD RECALL- 3/20 UPDATE - Carla Richardson

I don't think it's been definitively identified, but they suspect a fungus or toxin from the wheat gluten that is used to thicken the wet foods, to make a gravy.  I hope they can isolate the cause quickly, this is a true disaster for pet owners and their pets.

I feed dry Iams puppy food and adult food, and have for years, with no canned food at all.  We're all vulnerable, when something like this happens, though.

Has the offending bacteria, or whatever, been identified?

And it *is* for real, my neighbor's dog got out of the hospital tonight.  He'd been fed one of the wet stuff brands that's been implicated (also fed high quality kibble), and had horrible bloody stools and vomiting.  It's still not for sure that he'll survive it, at 11.

These recalls apply only to the "wet" foods, canned and packets, not dry food.  One more reason to feed only dry food (kibbles) to dogs and cats.
