[RC] Defensive weapons - koppj

I second what Ed says and also want to add this- the CCW ( concealed carry 
weapons) permit is accepted by many states with reciprical agreements - I know 
Kentucky's is valid in many of the surrounding states.  I have a small 38 
revolver with a lazer grip - adds to the cost but helps to get an accurate shot 
off.

There are many handguns suitable for defense.  The choice is complicated, 
and individual.  If you do not already have formal training I suggest:

1. Take a good introductory course and/or your one that fulfills your states 
CCW requirements.  This is necessary for safety and knowledge of legalities. 
Check with gun shops and shooting ranges.  If you are a woman, many run 
special courses for women.

2. Shoot a variety of handguns before making a choice.  Many pistol ranges 
rent handguns.  Many of the above courses include trial of a variety of 
firearms as part of the course.

3. Do not choose on price alone.  Higher priced is not necessarily better 
for defense.  On the other hand cheap is not a bargain.

and Wesson offerings.
