On the battlefield it is called triage. When you have only so much plasma, so much anaesthetic, so many gurneys, so many surgeons, you can't use it all on one soldier who even with all that help may or may not live to see tomorrow... and leave out there to die the 20 or 30 who have a good chance.

As Amy said, if you have a problem with euthanasia, "you shouldn't be in rescue" and Carol's point about "heart" is equally valid. Karen's advice about the feed and caring for a rescue animal tomorrow and the next day and the next should guide us to finding an animal welfare organization whose philosophy fits our own and then supporting it.
