I have done that, too, and it works fine as long as your horse is quiet. I have always been cautious about having anything attached to the saddle while unsaddling for fear the horse might jump and there would be the girth attached to the breastplate. No trouble with a quiet horse, but accidents can always happen and I'm "pathologically cautious." To cover both bases, I have been known to unsnap all attachments of the breastplate from the saddle and then immediately upon unbuckling the girth, retrieve the girth loop and snap it back on the breastplate.

off, forgot, and girth loop falls off...

Another way to solve this problem is to NOT unhook the girth loop from the breast collar before you undo the girth, and just slip the girth loop (while still attached to the breast collar) off the girth (and leave it attached to the breast collar). kat Orange County, Calif.
