[RC] Maggy Price Obituary - Stagg_Newman


Maggy Price
1930-2007

On 23 February 2007, the endurance riding community lost one of their most inspirational and invigorating members, Maggy Price.  We have many great memories of her down-to-earth attitude, vision, sense of humor, and very real accomplishments

3 Term AERC President 1990-1992
Many year member of AERC Board of Directors, with special attention to welfare of the horse, membership growth, and education
:
·        Led the campaign for the “Fit to Continue Criteria” vet guidlines
·        Membership drive:  ‘Each One Add One’ with “I Got Mine” bumper sticker – exploit the glitz from international success to drive awareness of our sport and get members
·        Led the AERC affiliation with USET and official recognition of endurance as an U.S. recognized Internatonal Discipline
·        Led the AERC adoption of the attention to grass roots membership: a 3-month endurance riding trip back and forth across the USA, going to premier rides such as Outlaw Trail, Swanton Pacific, Tevis
·        Insurance:  recognition (driven from legal threats) of the need for and procurement of liability insurance coverage for BoD and AERC as an organization


Breeder of Ramega Arabians Champions:
·        Ramegwa Priceless – top 10 Tevis (twice), top 10 Race of Champions (three times), bronze medal North American Championship 1986 (California)
·        Ramegwa KanavyAnn – 1992 Individual Bronze and Team Gold at World Championship (Barcelona, Spain), 1993 Team Gold and 4th at North American (Calgary, Alberta), 1991 North American 4th place, 1991 Race of Champions 2nd
·        Ramegwa Valentina – top 10 Race of Champions and Tevis
·        Ramegwa Drubin – 1992 AERC National 100 Mile Champion with never-equaled points; 1993 Bronze and team Gold at North American (Calgary, Alberta); 20 consecutve years of AERC completions with same rider
·        Ramegwa Kaffara – 1982 IAHA 100-mile endurance champion
·        Ramegwa Tomano (‘Jet’) – 3 Time Levi Ride-and-Tie National Champion
Competing
·        Over 7000 AERC endurance miles completed, much in 100-mile competitions
·        Bronze medal at World Championship in Barcelona, Spain in 1992 on Ramegwa Kanavyann
·        Team gold with USA East in 1993 at North American in Calgary, Alberta on Ramegwa Kanavyann
·        Team Silver with USA East in 1986 at North American in CA, on Ragmewa Priceless,
Honors:
·        1994 AERC Hall of Fame
·        2004 USEF Pegasus Medal of Honor

Maggy also raised three children, and introduced several grandchildren to endurance.   She is survived by her husband John Potter, her three children, Ray, Meg, and Walter from which the name Ramegwa comes.
