[RC] Endurance Clinic - Stagg_Newman

D'Arcy,

Thanks for the idea of producing a DVD.  We will put
that on the list of ideas for future clinics if
this one proves successful.

The big question would
be how much it would cost to produce a good quality
video for a day and half clinic.  My experience in
the non-horse world says it could well be far more
than our total budget for the clinic given the cost
per minute to produce a quality edited video.  And that budget
is larger than we would like.  For example the cost of
insurance is 5 to 10 times higher than what AERC
gets charged on a per ride basis for an entire ride
because we are a small group.  Then there is the cost of meals,
costs of professional time for vet, farrier, riding
instructor (who are giving us a bargain) etc), cost
of materials, etc.

I should emphasize that the nature of the clinic is such
that we hope much of the value for the partipants with
horses will be the indivualized evaluations and instructions
which of course cannot be done via a video format.

For example evaluating whether the horse and rider are
riding in rhythm, balance, and allignment, something
that makes a tremedous difference over the course of
50 or 100 miles and even more difference over a career,
can only be done by in person evaluation.  Similarly
for the professional evaluation of the shoeing of
the horse or the static and dynamic suitability of
the horse by the vet, or the personal dialog to
develop a training program for a horse and rider team
tailored to the capabilities of each and goals of the rider.

We do want to share our knowledge with a larger audience.
So you have prompted us to do some thinking.

Also there is more and more valuable information being
posted on the AERC education sight.

Best regards and hope to see at a future clinic and/or "on the trails".

Stagg

I would definitely be a purchaser of said DVD as well.  I'd like to see a p=
ercentage of the profits go to a Horse Charity of some type.  What a fantas=
tic way to raise funds - fund the presenters, fund a charity, and give anyo=
ne that can not attend a ways and means!=0A =0AD'Arcy L. Demianoff-Thompson=

I would love to attend the clinic, but it's just not feasible for me at t=
his time.  But a DVD or video of the clinic would be outstanding, and I'm s=
ure I'd buy it.=0A =0ACarla Richardson=0AColorado
