[RC] Conformation photos to look at - rides2far

Maybe EN should have a conformation photo op like one of
the other popular horse magazines has, three horses (they
could all or some be well known or high mileage horses) and
we could study their conformation and place in the order we
think they best go

Last night I was re-reading my Donna Snyder-Smith book, "Endurance Riding
and Competition" (trying to find pointers for riding Gunner's trot!) and
ran across the photos of types of horses that compete. I know some photos
make horses look better than others, but I glanced at a photo and
thought, "Why would they put that horse in there, I would never pick
him"...then I read the caption:

K.J. Destination . He won Best Condition in the Race of Champions two
years in a row, finished Top Ten in the North American Championships and
was on the Gold Medal Team at the World Championships 1996". Looking at
that photo I would never had chosen him. Rio looks better in his photo,
but still doesn't grab me. I prefer to see them in motion, but even when
I had an ROC video it wasn't Rio or Diamond who caught my eye...it was
the big flashy moving floating trots that weren't in top 10.

Still I would love to see a column like this if people would just get
good photos. If my family manages to video & photograph at Biltmore this
year, that's one of my goals, to get the vet in trot outs of the 100 mile
horses, and film the BC judging. Also, I'd like to take some good
standing shots and start cataloging some of these good ones. I took
photos of many of the 100 mile horses when I covered the ride in 1994.

There's Shahdon, that Val came in 2nd with and sold to the Arabs, the one
that says "Val's Backup" was named "Ironman". The "Wave" is "Catch a
Wave" (Pan Am winner), then there's Chagall (super horse), "Slicker's
Runaway" is Kara Disbrow's "Viente Corona" . He's done very well on 50's
and won a 100 last year so he's now proven, there's Kathy Brunjes horse
"Ali Darkness" who I believe we sent to the WEC, BR Timmy is "Brown R
Timothy" (a great horse lots of people don't seem to have noticed) Dinah
Rojek's horse is "Phoenix", There's a good start for anyone who wants to
look them over. Maybe John could start a photo gallery of conformation
shots of good horses.
