[RC] RE:Finished/Fit to Continue - Michael Maul

As a further bit of clarification to "Fit to Continue does not feel the gap you are saying

When the horse is given a completion - the vet has made the decision that the horse is fit to continue. If the horse was not fit to continue - completion should not have been awarded.

If something happens later - that does not effect the decision the vet made at that point in time.

Removing a completion after a ride for treatment is similar in my view to being judged fit to continue at a check during the ride - and then if something happens to the horse during the next loop - you try to say the horse wasn't fit to continue out of the last vet check.

Vets and riders make the best decisions they can at the time of the decision. The decision for completion is made at the end of the ride. That's all AERC can ask in my view.

Apparently some other organizations feel differently as demonstrated by the post about the UMERCA rules which don't allow this. I respect their views for their rides.

Mike
