[RC] Equine Herpes "EHV-1" Outbreak in Fla - Don Huston

This is a post from "naturalhorsetrim@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" sent by a lady who lives in Wellington and it is in response to a question about vaccinating for EHV-1. Does anyone on this list know about the California outbreak?

Vaccinating is mostly a public service in this case. The horse might
not shed the virus as much, but it definitely won't stop them from
getting it. 4000 horses vaccinated in Wellington in a 10 day period
this month. Talk about exhausted vets. And if it carries (which they
say it does) from person's clothing, right there could be some
serious stupidity.... Saturday's papers have the vets singing a
different tune, too. Swerdlin (the vet that started it) stating we
have it contained. Not a big deal. Don't worry, etc... No new
cases outside the quarantine zones (not counting California) and I
have a feeling it's the pressure of the township making them say
this. Big money is being wasted. 3 shows already cancelled and the
winter festival is supposed to start the 24th... South Florida fair
on the 11th. And that is beginning of hundreds of shows. This month
last year was so crowded. Wellington stores a ghost town. Restuarants
empty. Panini's--you could never even get in the parking lot.. I drove
by yesterday, empty... Spooky...
