RE: [RC] no dust barn floor - Bob Morris

Title: Message
Here in South West Idaho where it can be very dusty in summer, 100 degrees and ten percent humidity, and then in spring with the rains it can become quite muddy, I have spread half inch washed rock on the area around my barn. Used about 40 cy to cover a large area with about two inches.

This serves several purposes. It keeps the dust to a minimum in the summer, drains very well in the wet times and toughens the feet of the horses. It is easy to maintain, just drag it a few times a year with a spike harrow and it stays in good shape.

Please reply to the list, or include me in your reply. The very nice barn on
the place I bought last year has a concrete floor. I ripped out the concrete
where I put in the horse stalls, and leveled it with plain dirt from outside.
It dried out and became extremely dusty, I'm planning to scoop some dirt out and
putting in another base this spring. Funny, I never had that problem in
Alabama!
