Just a thought here....

My boys are kept in our back pasture and rotated around. The area is just
about 15 acres and contains varied terrain. I also have had trouble finding
trails close by to train on.

Sooo...

I created a .71 mile track around the pasture that includes hills, flats, and
crosses a stream. Yesterday we rode 21 miles, that is 30 laps.

There are some advantages to having a small track to train on. You can tell
that your horse is getting in better shape by watching your heart rate on lap
after lap. After a few rides you find that you can keep the same heart rate
longer and your lap times decrease.

Of course my boys love to hit the trail and get away from the farm too. But it
sure is easy to come home and just throw a leg over and ride!
