Perhaps experienced clairvoyant endurance vets can view a picture of a horse
and deem it "fit". Even taking a breath while standing in a photo. However, I
don't think so. Also, to the always critical public this horse is thin. COUNT
THE RIBS< NO RESERVES> I am inclined to think it has to do with the abscesses
on its back. Too much work, not enough rest and not enough feed. I am sure
this horse is well electrolited and cared for during the competion. However,
this photo shows a thin horse. Perhaps why the photographer took the picture
in the first place. Buddy

But you are experienced and clairvoyant enough to pronounce the horse unfit or
poorly managed from a photo?

These horses have thin summer coats, and the light was coming almost parallel to
the horse's flank which accentuates rib contours (as does the white hair). It's
not unusual for ribs to show on fit distance horses. When was the last time you
saw a fat Marathoner?
