FW: Re: [RC] [RC] Snotty nosed horses...Compete or not? - Ginny Holsman

I agree. The Vet Check is the place for a horse to be determined healthy enough to compete or not. It's the Vet's responsibility to disqualify any horse that is sick.

Perhaps adding a Vet Check in advance would help, though -- that is, to even begin the race. That would certainly be simple to establish and accomplish.

Good intentions, but I doubt that requiring a health certificate will do much.
A horse can be in apparent good health one day, and infectious the next. It
will add one more burden (and expense) on riders.

Also, in over 12,000 miles I've seen very few sick horses at rides, at least
horses being entered in the event. I do not recall a single time one of my
horses got sick from another horse at a ride. Endurance rides are about the
healthiest "gatherings" of horses that you'll find, IMO.

How about a policy that if your horse is found to be sick and at risk of
spreading illness to other horses at check-in, you will be required to leave the
grounds immediately and get NO refund?
