Football players wear helmets. It's required. So do hockey players. Even bull riders are starting to put them on (about time). When I played football in high school, during the Civil War, even back then we had helmets and were required to wear them. Even with the helmet, I was knocked unconscious 3 times during my illustrious football career, with my helmet on (this explains everything you need to know about "Howard"). Coaches really should not allow players who weigh 130 lbs (this was before I discovered beer) to run back punts.

Hey buddy - think punts are bad try running back kickoffs. Hit the hole fast enough with a good block you are gone. Hit the hole a little to slow or don't get a good block you are carried out on the stretcher :-( . Try carrying the ball 30 times a game at 145 pounds. That's what you get when you are the fastest hombre in three states - it's called getting beat to a pulp. Even with a helmet in football you can easily get your bell rung. However, I suspect I will hit the ground off a horse a lot harder than I ever got hit by a linebacker.

I will ready admit that I wear a helmet out of fear - fear if I don't that I could spend the rest of my life wearing diapers with someone feeding me. And when I following a nice looking tiny hiny down the trail her head is the last thing I am looking at ;-) .
