[RC] Bitless Bridle - Susan Favro

I’ve used a Bitless Bridle since last summer. I like that it’s more comfortable on the horse’s mouth, but find that it’s got a couple of things that could be improved on. For one, it doesn’t release pressure quickly enough when I release the rein. Also, the ring and rein clasp added together mean that I need to keep some tension on the reins at all times or the reins start swinging a lot with the movement of the horse which my Paint finds irritating but a young Arab I’ve been working with doesn’t seem to mind as much. I’m working with some folks to get several design issues addressed and will hopefully be able to come up with a “better mouse trap” version of the bridle. Until then I’ll probably continue to use the Bitless Bridle, but I think I’m going to also give the side pull a try. On the young horse I’m going to put him in a snaffle initially and then switch him out to something that takes the metal out of his mouth.
