[RC] hard to catch horse - terre

Well, a couple weeks ago, I went out one night to pull him out of the pasture. He walked up to me like normal, but as soon as I lifted my arm to put the leadrope around his neck, he took off at a gallop and make circles around the 3 acre pasture, then would stop to look at me.

I think he's "playing with you"--or more accurately (it's a cross between this and the 'herd leader' thing) he's testing to see if you can 'beat him at this game'. Reasons I think this: his attitude seems playful, and he turns to look at you to keep you in the game--otherwise he would just keep running away. I would repeat what you did last time that worked--it'll probably only take a day or two to 'remind him'. One thing you can try before that--when you go out to catch him, before you get to him (before he can spin and run away), turn your back to him and BACK UP to around his shoulder. The reach forward to put the halter on. Sometimes that works--it's like it "breaks the game up" when you don't look them in the face...

good luck!
