Re: [RC] Clipping/ mud - Jody Rogers-Buttram

I love that ..... a Yak Arab.  That would make for a very good mountain endurance prospect I would think !!!   :))

I have a Yak arab too. I can't get the ground mud out of his hair in
under 30 minutes, and it takes long to cool him out -- and then in the
spring, which comes early in Ga. that he sweats easily till May. So when
I am riding him in winter I trace clip him. Underside of neck and aline
across his middle , including his upper legs and lower often as I can't
find his legs to check them under all the hair. I do have to be more careful
about blanketing him--- I use a heavier blanket if he is totally body
clipped or trace clipped. And diffintnitly sheet during rain under 55
degrees.
P. S. I have notice that the clipped horses and the ones that dont' grow
much coat , do not roll in th mud much at all---It it the Yaks that roll in
the mud everytime there is a day above 50 degrees.
They are a lot less trouble to clean and cool when clipped---- you just
have to have shelter and a couple differnt sheets an dblankets. I also use
polar sheets too under rain sheets is it isn't too cold. So is you clip ,
they need a wardrobe----;0)
