[RC] toe dragging and fatigue - Mary Krauss

Have any of you had experience with a horse dragging its hind toes when fatigued? I rode a beautiful (I mean really, really beautiful) mare today who seemed a tad reluctant, then, in the arena, clearly dragged her hind toes only a few steps before being asked to canter. She'd been on a fairly hilly, though short, ride that day and a couple of days earlier, and hadn't seen much exercise for quite a while before that. Any thoughts? (I know there can be all sorts of stifle issues and even EPM, but also wonder if this sort of behavior can occur simply when a horse is tired....)
